Trinidad is one of the most visited cities in Cuba by tourists. It’s a popular stop on most itineraries due to the gorgeous cobbled streets and colonial Spanish architecture. There are no shortage of places to stay once you get there, though the casa particulares are a very attractive option with fewer hotels to choose from.
La Casona 254 was another recommended by the tour operator Cuba Direct, and it is very convenient being only a short walk from the Iberostar Hotel drop off point in the centre of the city. The most appealing feature of this casa particulares in Trinidad is a picturesque balcony which gives views of the Parque Cespedes in one direction, and the sea in the other.
It’s very easy to see all the main sights of Trinidad while staying here with a huge amount of taxis which can take you to the nearby Playa Ancon beach or other attractions in the area.
The price for the casa is listed as only £20 per night on Tripadvisor but you pay a fair bit more if booking via a tour operator (though they won’t give you an itemised breakdown so we’re not sure how much of that La Casona received). For that you get a huge breakfast (with lots of nice extras like cake, ham and cheese), air conditioning, a welcome drink on arrival and the option to have a romantic meal on the casa balcony. For only 12 CUC pp we had a lobster dinner which was truly delicious, including a soup starter and jellied guava for dessert. The mojitos were some of the best we had while in Cuba – high praise indeed! We also got some laundry done while here which was very useful – especially after walking through the red earth of Viñales Valley.
The only slight negative of the casa is a very small staircase which is quite hard to manoeuvre big bags up and down. Also do bear in mind that, like all casas, any extras like drinks or dinner are chargeable.
La Casona 254 is located at C/General Lino Perez (San Procopio) no 254.
